This presentation focuses on the church architecture of the towns within Russia’s Golden Ring—Kashin, Kalyazin, Uglich, and Rybinsk—places where history, spiritual tradition, and cultural heritage attain a unique artistic resonance. Each of these cities reveals its own character: intimate and ancient Kashin; legendary Kalyazin with its symbol of time; majestic Uglich, which preserves the memory of pivotal events in Russian history; and Rybinsk—a city where the monumentality of the Volga region blends with the beauty of Orthodox sanctuaries. Through the photographer’s lens, the churches are presented not merely as architectural monuments, but as reflections of the cities' character, their atmosphere, the memory of generations, and humanity’s connection to history. The project offers a new perspective on familiar places, revealing the multifaceted nature of the Upper Volga through light, form, detail, and emotion.

Voskresensky Cathedral is the main historical symbol of Kashin—a magnificent historic church known for its 76-meter bell tower, capacity of up to 7,000 people (which equaled the entire population of the pre-revolutionary city), and housing the relics of Saint Anna of Kashin. The first mention of the cathedral in historical sources dates back to 1382 (at that time, the church was still made of wood).

The benches in Kashin are traditional wooden pedestrian bridges spanning the winding Kashinka and Vonzhu rivers, serving as a unique city landmark and a convenient crossing point for local residents.

Legend has it that many of the churches in Kashin were built in such a way that their arrangement forms a cross. The Cathedral is located practically at the very center of this symbolic cross, emphasizing its unique role in the history and spiritual life of the city. It is not by chance that Kashin is called the «city of the Russian heart”—a place where faith, history, and tradition converge, and the Kashinka River has a unique bend that forms a heart shape.

The Church of Prophet Elijah is an elegant stone church, built between 1775 and 1778, renowned for its picturesque location on the banks of the Kashinki River. The church was constructed on the site of two former wooden churches (the Ilyinskaya and the Transfiguration Church).

During the Soviet era, the city archive was housed in this church building for many years.
Architecture: A two-story stone temple that combines elements of Baroque and Classicism. The upper floor is cold, dedicated to the banner of the Lord’s Cross. The lower floor is warm. Currently, the church has been returned to the faithful.

Built in 1800.
The tower stands on a small artificial island in the Uglich Reservoir. The structure has been restored, and boat tours are organized around it by motorboats and rowboats.
