For the concept behind the tapestry pattern, I drew inspiration from Alfred Yarbus’s eye-tracking records. The Soviet scientist was among the first to graphically illustrate gaze trajectories based on the observer’s task. Broken, intersecting lines and geometric «knots» symbolize the fixation of our invisible attention and evoke Op Art paintings.

← «Eye Movements When Viewing I. E. Repin’s Painting ‘We Were Not Waiting’», A. L. Yarbus, 1967.

The title of the work, «THE RESPONSIVE EYE, ” is inspired by the first Op Art exhibition held at MoMA in 1965.
