Smile — a psychological 3D animated body horror film in the style of experimental cinema that explores the theme of destructive digital addiction to social media.
The film Smile addresses a current sociocultural issue of our time—humanity’s total mental dependence on brainrot content. Through the lens of grotesque body horror, the project investigates the phenomenon of personal degradation and clip-based thinking.

FORMAT
Short Film / 3 Minutes
Audience:
Horror enthusiasts aged 16–30 who value strong visual imagery and emotional impact. They appreciate sharp contrasts, unsettling silhouettes, and dynamism. They expect rich, short episodes featuring a clearly «scary» scene. The primary channel is social media (Shorts/Reels); the format includes teasers, clips, and close-ups.
Genre:
Psychological Body Horror
Execution Techniques:
• Clean 3D (CGI): High-polygon sculpting of form, facial rigging (Blend Shapes) to convey panic.
• PBR Texturing: Realistic setup of material and optical properties for skin and slime (Subsurface Scattering).
• VFX and Simulations: Soft Body physics for monster growth impulses; procedural generation of fuzzy mold (Geometry Nodes / Hair); simulation of cloth and fluids.

SYNOPSIS
Having accidentally swallowed an internet emoji with his food, the everyday man Mark begins a process of irreversible mutation: a slick, multicolored monster of content grows on the back of his head, slowly subjugating his body and paralyzing his will. Trapped in a room amidst piles of plastic junk and trendy debris, the protagonist plunges deeper into a sticky digital trance from which he can never emerge unchanged.
ANIMATICS
CHARACTERS
Mark (23) — Protagonist
A faceless commoner whose identity and will are paralyzed by network algorithms. Due to digital addiction, his exhausted body grotesquely mutates: his spine curves into an arch, his skin is covered in pus-filled blisters, and in the finale, his facial features completely «blur,» transforming into an amorphous, bloody mass. This grotesque rebirth symbolizes the loss of autonomy and spiritual death.
«The Smiley» (Monster Content)
A digital parasite embodying cheap dopamine and «brainrot» content. The accidentally ingested smiley grows on the hero’s nape. In the virtual world, it disguises itself as an attractive, glossy, neon-sugary tumor, but in reality, it transforms into a foul, rotting, mold-covered carnivorous fungus that controls Mark’s body and devours his brain.
ENVIRONMENT
Mark’s Gray Room: Visual Solution and Significance:
A bleak, confined space in a dirty gray palette, which has become a voluntary prison and a symbol of absolute isolation for the character. As Mark’s mind resides within his smartphone, his body undergoes a subtle, physical deterioration within this room.
Smartphone Screen / Dopamine Illusion: Visual Solution and Significance:
An aggressive source of toxic neon-yellow light, contrasting sharply with the darkness of the room. This space of false comfort and hidden anxiety is Mark’s primary trigger—the sole source of surrogate happiness for which he sacrifices his human form.
TEAM
The «Smile» Project Team
This psychological body-horror piece is currently being developed by a team of two. The project is being crafted in the style of experimental cinema and explores the theme of digital dependence, with both authors jointly handling every task—from script development to final technical realization—by dividing responsibilities across key areas.
Danya
3D Generalist / Technical Pipeline / Simulations and VFX
He realizes technically complex stages of graphics, transforming artistic concepts into polished visual sequences. Danya handles architectural blocking for environments, develops procedural textures, and creates visual effects demonstrating the evolution of monster forms. During preproduction, he effectively utilizes generative AI tools to discover unique visual solutions. Furthermore, he manages the crowd simulation system for large-scale scenes and refines fur grooming. In the final stages, he integrates all the material through video editing and crafts a rich soundscape that entirely replaces in-scene dialogue.
Dasha
3D Generalist / Visual Style / Pre-production Direction
Responsible for the creative concept and artistic atmosphere of the project. Dasha develops the script and prepares the animatic, which defines the rhythm and narrative structure. Her responsibilities also include creating concept art and digital sculpting. She entirely shapes the mood within the frame, overseeing the final lighting setup and color grading, which give the project its distinctive experimental film aesthetic.
