Project Concept

The anxious background noise of everyday life, saturated with a flood of conflicting news, has become the new normal. In times of instability, people often experience an amplified need for a sense of predictability in tomorrow. In an environment of media saturation, the methods used to achieve this state can sometimes be irrational—magical thinking, or obsessively focusing on a single news source. People turn to methods of varying reliability in an attempt to secure a prosperous future. But how effectively can this behavior truly help overcome information stress, the uncertainty of reality, and a general state of anxiety?
Through the «dissection» of news headlines, newspapers, and media clutter, I contemplate the impossibility of such desired predictability while simultaneously deconstructing the news flow in an effort to evade the obsessive narratives of modern media. The project «After the News» consists of three books by the artist and a video, each realizing this deconstruction in a different way.

Artist’s Book Series

Drawing inspiration from various publications, such as «Arguments and Facts,» «Express,» and «Moscow Komsomolets,» I created three distinct artist books: a «Scroll with a Poem, ” a „Pocket Collection of Newspaper Lyrics: On Love, Friendship, and the Motherland, ” and a „Prophecy Handbook: Good News.“ In each book, I examine contemporary individuals' reactions to the media deluge—anxiety, fatigue, and irritation—through diverse approaches. I deconstruct the narratives within these media streams, stripping away propagandistic and political meanings. By staging a simulated, ironic retreat, I guide the viewer back to reality.

«The Scroll Poem 'In the Flow'»

post

In creating this scroll-poem, I reflect on the obsession inherent in the flow of modern information. I dissect newspaper headlines and weave them into an absurd scroll-poem. By working with the scroll’s form, I grotesquely amplify the perceived importance of the information deluge, as well as the inherent biases within the headlines. I offer the viewer the quintessence of the endless stream of news clutter in the form of an «infinite» poem.

«A Pocket Anthology of Newspaper Lyrics: On Love, Friendship, and the Motherland»

The news feed daily mixes the private and the global, the significant and the trivial. Our sensitivity and capacity to personally experience broadcasted events are diminishing. In this pocket anthology of journalistic lyricism, I deliberately focus on «human» everyday themes, crafting poems from newspaper texts about love, friendship, the Homeland, and nature. In doing so, I point to the narrowness of rhetoric and the archaic nature of contemporary press messages.
