A filmic investigation of a personal digital archive. My hands finally reached out to sort through blocks of almost identical shots, remnants of attempts to capture the perfect moment.
My journey into the past: from frustration over failed shots to the memories they hold. I am not simply reviewing photographs; I am questioning: why did I take the same picture repeatedly? What am I truly searching for in dozens of similar frames? And how, among this multitude of «whys, ” is the answer to be found.
However, I still haven’t been able to sort through my stacks of copies. Maybe… later.
I cannot show the Winter Garden photograph to anyone else. It exists for me alone. To you, it would be nothing more than one of many photographs—one of a thousand expressions of «something indefinable.» It cannot in any way constitute an object of scientific knowledge; objectivity in the positive sense of the word cannot be based upon it; at best, it might interest your study—the era, the clothing, the photogenic quality—but for you, it would not contain any wound.
For the film, I used a desktop that broadcasts my photo viewing from my archive onto the screen. I vocalize my thoughts while scrolling, selecting, or deleting frames.
This is a search for answers to my own personal questions, and perhaps an attempt to solve the problem of duplicate photos taking up storage space.
