Concept
As children, while playing with Lego, we identified with our little Lego figures. We could give them any hairstyle, any clothing—make them unique. Yet, no matter how vibrant or different these figures were, the imprint they left was the same.
This series of printmaking consists of impressions placed on the backs of picture frames. The front displays an idyllic image: colorful, smiling figures on a green lawn. This image, viewed through glass, is sold like a commodity in a polished display window. Every figure is unique.
On the reverse side of the picture frames are the impressions of the figures. Personalities fade away. The arrangement of the silhouettes mirrors the placement of the figures on the frame’s front—it is the same characters, but it no longer matters who is who. It is a mass.
The number of figures grows. Meanwhile, once an impression is placed, it remains in the same spot from one work to the next. Forever.
