1. This is a reference to the tradition of welcoming a kitten into a new home; here, it is literally «creating a home.»
2. Planets as Christmas Ornaments. The idea is that the year ends when Earth (and other planets!) completes a full orbit around the Sun.
Bonus—I thought it was amusing to incorporate a smoke plume shaped like a heart symbol inside the anatomical heart.

Both films relate to the concept of time: in «Groundhog Day, ” it repeats endlessly, while in „Back to the Future, ” it can travel backward.
