Surrealism is a movement in 20th-century art and literature that delves into the unconscious, dreams, and free association. Surrealists sought to transcend rational thought and reveal a world where familiar objects acquire unexpected properties and connections. Key principles include: • Dream logic: the disruption of conventional laws of space, time, and causality. • Juxtaposition of the incompatible: unexpected pairings of familiar images and objects. • Automatism: spontaneous creation with diminished conscious control. • Transformation of the mundane: recognizable items become strange, mysterious, or impossible. Surrealism invites us to look beyond everyday reality into a space of imagination, hidden desires, and experiences. Among its key representatives are André Breton, Salvador Dalí, René Magritte, and Max Ernst.

Concept
After waking up, a residue remains—familiar images that gradually lose their outlines and transform into something unreal.
«Reality Residues» is an attempt to give form to that state between sleep and awakening, where the familiar world submits to the laws of a dream.
Inspired by René Magritte’s «Golconda, ” human figures transform into peculiar raindrops. Gentlemen frozen in the air blend with transparent droplets, creating a surreal rain where the human becomes part of a natural phenomenon. The inverted figures disrupt the conventional perception of space, blurring the line between reality and dreams.

Location
The installation «Precipitation of Reality» will be housed in the spiral staircase of the Vyborg water tower, which was built in 1930 based on a design by architect Вяйнё Кейнянена.
The structure’s form—a depiction of rain made from human figures and droplets—will allude to the historical function of the water tower, connecting the building’s architectural past with its contemporary cultural role.
