What is my photo project «Monochrome of Soviets» about?
The theme of my photo project is the architecture and monumental sculpture of the Soviet era through the monochrome aesthetic of minimalism.
I have always been fascinated by everything grand and vast—that which makes a person feel small and insignificant in comparison. This is precisely the feeling I wanted to convey through my photographs.
In my project, I explored the relationship between architecture and the ideology of that time. In the USSR, buildings and monuments often served as tools of propaganda: they displayed the power of the state and glorified historical figures.
I was interested in showing how people perceive this architecture today. What feelings do monumental sculptures, shot from a low angle, evoke? How does the perception of a building change if you strip away unnecessary details and leave only its form?
