Project Overview
«Stock Voices» — a multi-channel sound art installation that transforms the dynamics of Russian stock market performance into sound. Trading session data controls the sonic parameters, forming a constantly evolving composition and a unique sound portrait of the market.
Why is this necessary?
Financial data is typically presented in the form of tables, charts, and news articles. This project proposes a novel way to interact with this data—to make market dynamics audible and transform the flow of information into an artistic and research experience. «Stock Voice» does not predict the market or offer investment advice. Its purpose is to demonstrate how data can become material for sound art and how to reimagine complex processes in a new way.
Who is this for?
1. Classrooms interested in sound, technology, and contemporary art
2. Clients who need to present financial topics in an accessible and unconventional format
Expected Outcome
Main Deliverable — the public realization of a multichannel installation that reproduces a sound composition based on stock market data. Additionally, the project may include data visualization, brief explanations of the principles of its transformation, and a digital version for online viewing.
Implementation Principles
▪ Transparency: Visitors understand what data is being used and how it influences the sound.
▪ Artistic Expressiveness:
the sound system creates a cohesive auditory experience, rather than simply voicing numbers.
▪ Correctness: The project does not interpret sound changes as a prediction or recommendation.
▪ Accessibility: The work is accompanied by visual and textual explanations.
▪ Responsible Data Use: Prior to public presentation, the terms for obtaining and using exchange information must be approved. The Moscow Exchange provides data via API, but access, delay, and public usage terms depend on the chosen format.
Required Resources
1) Access to market data and agreement on usage rights.
2) Development of an algorithm to transform data into sound.
3) Sound equipment and multichannel acoustic system.
4) Computer and software for data and sound processing.
5) Exhibition space, installation setup, and testing.
