«The Hobbit» is a classic you can see: a cult fantasy adventure presented in vibrant illustrations and a user-friendly format for kids.

Why is this important?
Existing illustrated editions of «The Hobbit» are typically geared toward collectors and adult fans of Tolkien: they employ dense, classical text, small type size, and a muted, often subdued watercolor style. Even well-known editions featuring illustrations by Alan Lee are primarily positioned as gift and collectible items, rather than as the «first Tolkien book» for a child.
This creates a barrier: long, continuous text, complex names, few visual anchors, and an insufficiently expressive depiction of scenes. Consequently, the classic remains a «book for later,» even though its adventurous structure, humor, journey, and character development are perfectly suited for children’s reading.

How?
Positioning
There are already strong illustrated editions of «The Hobbit» on the market—including versions featuring Tolkien’s own artwork and watercolors by Alan Lee, as well as graphic novels and high-end collector’s editions. Our project does not compete with these directly: it occupies a niche between a children’s book, a visual novel, and a quality gift edition.
