A personal subjective analysis of the exhibition «FAIRY TALE.DREAM» by contemporary artist Grecht.
As part of the critique course from the Academy of Talents, curated by Ilya Korney-Ivanov, we visited various spaces to analyze the exhibits. One such stop was Grecht’s «FAIRY TALE.DREAM» at the Limonov Art Foundation (23 Bering St., Bldg. 2, Litera A, Apt. 514). It was an interesting experience because we didn’t know where we were going—we didn’t know the exhibition’s author or its title. We literally wandered through the hangar, examining the small inhabitants of that universe, gradually becoming a part of it. Only after our own reflection did we return to the beginning—to the text from the exhibition curator, Anna Yakubova:

Ilya discussed the artist (Grecht—a contemporary, anonymous artist, member of the «Johnjoli Flowers» group, whose work is primarily based on the author’s inner mythology) and the exhibition itself. From the totality of our prior sensations and factual information, we were able to reconfigure our perceptions and conclusions. The final step was to write about what we saw; a crucial requirement was completing this a week later, so as to describe only what genuinely remained in memory after that time.
