My tapestry is based on an exploration of Vladivostok’s cultural code. When I think of this city, the first things that come to mind are eclecticism and contrast. Vladivostok exists at the intersection of different worlds: the natural, the industrial, and the Eastern. The city’s natural landscape is shaped by steep hillsides, marine stacks, endless bodies of water, ice, and local fauna—from gulls to sea otters to tigers. The industrial aspect is evident in the port, trade, cargo ships, metal, and technical structures. Its proximity to Asian nations creates a unique cultural environment where various traditions, visual motifs, and daily practices intertwine.
In my work, I strive to convey Vladivostok not through isolated, recognizable symbols, but through the interaction of these heterogeneous elements, creating a complex, multi-layered, and contradictory image of the city.
