The tapestry «Second Round» is an extension of my thesis project, which focuses on transforming the historical area near the «Skachki» station in Krasnoe Selo into a modern equestrian complex that unites the site’s memory with sport.
For creating the tapestry illustration, I drew upon archival materials—engravings, photographs, and posters from different years that captured the grandstand, riders, and horses on the field. The historical image of the grandstand became the conceptual core of the composition. The modern dynamism of equestrian sport—silhouettes of riders and horses in motion—was transformed into a rhythmic framing device for the narrative, setting the direction and tempo for the entire canvas. The title references the very structure of the races: the heats travel in a circle, and the history of the location seems to run its second lap, returning to the present day. The resulting image was cropped taking into account the characteristics of the weaving and the composition.
