Project Description
«Wordless» is a tapestry whose design was based on the Sylexiad Sans typeface, developed for individuals with dyslexia. I used the letterforms as the foundation for my own composition, transforming them into an abstract black-and-white pattern. In this piece, I was interested in exploring how a typeface can exist outside of text and how its graphic characteristics would look in a different medium.
Concept
Typefaces are usually necessary for reading, but behind every letter lies a specific form: lines, curves, dots, and negative space. In my project, I decided to focus precisely on these elements. The basis for the tapestry was Sylexiad Sans. I took its graphics as a starting point and transformed them into a composition. When transferring the design onto the fabric, the graphics acquire a different expressive quality. The threads create texture, and the weave forms the pattern. Meanwhile, the composition itself remains simple and high-contrast: black and white emphasize the shape of the elements and their relationship to one another.

The title «Without Words» relates to the fact that the typeface here is no longer used for reading. It becomes an image that can be perceived in its own right—through form, rhythm, and texture. I wanted to demonstrate that graphic lettering can exist independently of its meaning and become the foundation for another artistic statement.
