Concept and References
The visual inspiration for the project was the doll aesthetic of Barbie: smooth vinyl, expressive drawn eyes, sculptural hair, and a pink-mint palette. The goal was to translate this artistic language onto a collection of diverse original characters while preserving their individual identity.
Style references using specially generated source material. These are not film stills or results from a trained LoRA.
Instead of one recognizable protagonist in the project, an entire ensemble appears: characters with diverse hairstyles, clothing, and accessories. They are unified by the material, soft lighting, and the method of depicting the face. This allows one to test whether the overall style transfers to new textual descriptions.
A single detailed prompt can establish a doll-like style, but the result also depends on the capabilities of the base model. Therefore, the objective was to train a custom style adapter and compare its performance against the base model using identical prompts and seeds.
16 square image fragments: 14 for training + 2 for validation. The full source files and prepared images are located in dataset.zip.
The set consists of 16 specialized
images generated via OpenAI Imagegen.
They are downsampled to 768×768 without
artistic filters: 14 were used
for training, 2 are reserved for validation.
Captions describe the specific image
and include the dollcast marker. Film frames and
photographs of finished dolls are not included in the dataset.

Goal — to introduce new characters into the shared doll world by changing appearance and costume via a text prompt. The adapter was expected to transfer material, color palette, and facial character; detail accuracy and anatomy were checked separately upon viewing the results.
MY GENERATIONS
The series is based on deliberate doll-like stylization: large eyes, smooth facial features, voluminous strands, and pastel clothing. Eight of the twelve control variations were selected. LoRA strength is 0.95; the generation was performed at 768×768 in 32 steps using DPM++ 2M Karras. The actual prompts are provided below the images.

After connecting LoRA, the drawn eyes, hair sheen, and plastic texture of the collectible doll are more pronounced. The images were generated from text and noise; training images were not used as an initial image for generation.

The overall color palette and materiality were consistent across various descriptions of appearance. However, the model did not always adhere precisely to the request: red hair could turn pink, or one braid might become two. These deviations were retained in the results and factored into the selection process.

The series is tied together by the pink background and the color combinations of mint, cream, and pink in the clothing. Four candidates were excluded due to a pseudo-signature, a less convincing brushstroke, or an overly rigid smile. The cohesion of the selected series does not guarantee that all new submissions will be equally successful.
