The system of contemporary art demands that artists constantly generate new ideas and original artistic gestures. This premise is tied to the expansion of art’s boundaries, particularly through the practice of Marcel Duchamp, who demonstrated that an ordinary object can attain the status of a work of art through the artist’s choice and institutional context. Given that the act of conferring artistic status upon an object has become part of art history, the search for the new inevitably encounters existing imagery and techniques.
The project approaches the stick as a simple object that has already been utilized by artists in various contexts. Through graphics and video, I examine repetition as a mechanism of art production. The repeated reproduction of a single image gradually erodes the distinctions between its variations, transforming them into visual noise. The project ironically comments on the demand for originality while simultaneously continuing to generate new images and gestures.
