The sound ghosts are a series of hidden site-species structures located at different locations in Moscow and Pomoskovya, exploring the link between the lost past and the fragile present. Each object is a sonic artifact that reproduces the phantom sound trace of where it is (the sound collage of embience, music, and sound of the past). The work is based on the principle of random discovery, Easter. The built-in dynamic is a sound on the edge of hearing, it’s easy to miss, so only someone who can slow down and listen will find it.
The attention here is a condition for finding an artifact that reproduces the sound of the past, which in turn changes the perception of the present. This changed present is new, it’s just as fragile and doomed to disappear.
The project offers acoustic care training and translates passive space consumption into active, meditative search. In an era of full access to the digital past, work insists on the value of a material, accidental and vulnerable meeting. The project works with a personal, non-tool-based relationship with the city, creating attraction points and transforming the urban environment from a transit site into a personal map of meanings and memories.
