Concept
Culture preserves an emotional connection to the past. We rarely remember it literally. More often, we recall the scent of home, a family celebration, a favorite street, the fabric of a dress, music, or the intonation of a story. We preserve not the object, but our relationship to it. Memory can become a living practice that continues to connect a person to what has been lost—hence the term «temperamental memory.» Memory arises not when something is securely preserved, but when something is threatened with disappearance. Armenian culture has repeatedly existed without stable material foundations—no state, no territory, no unified cultural center, no security—and this shaped our temperament.
