Photography is the substance of our memory, a carrier of information—a delicate, almost transparent «screen» with a special sensory field for visual and emotional connection with the viewer. Photography has the power to transport us into the past. This is why social media today is a collection of personal «memory diaries, ” mostly composed of photographs. But our project is about the future!

«Kaleidoscope of Time» by Stepan Saunin

We manually assembled collages from photographic portraits and created our own multilayered virtual reality from a halo of fragments from the analog archives of our daily lives—magazine pages, newspapers, and advertisements. These are images from the past that serve as templates for constructing what seems like new frames in a film about ourselves. These are our personal stories, experiences, and fantasies. Each collage presented is a window into a new world, where one can believe in a trip to the Moon or easily talk about something you saw in a dream!

«Life in Art» by Yaroslav Tyurnikov

Layering, a kaleidoscope of contexts, demonstrable junctions between different temporal realities, and unmasked seams between text and image—all of this forges a distinct system of collaging vision and thought. The particular quality of this artistic thinking is its capacity to create a cohesive image and subsequently deconstruct it into fragments, connect the inchoate, and perceive meaning and the depth of relationships within ordinary things.

Our project is environmentally friendly—all pieces were created through the creative repurposing of glossy magazines we collected at the gymnasium. The secondary nature of this artistic material is a form of crafting with «recycled feedstock, ” where scraps from magazines, newspapers, ideas, quotes, and techniques find new life and a different resonance in the collage.

«Swan Lake» Tatyana Zaretskaya

Discovering the potential to connect the space of collage—reality as such—with the reality created by imagination cultivates acting and directing skills in every artist working with this technique. After all, we no longer want to appear as background extras in someone else’s film; instead, we learn the skill of creating our own auteur cinema, where each of us plays the main role we invented in that very fantastic place we love!
