«We reach for the mysterious, we sense it, but we do not understand it. Sometimes, in heightened moments of feeling, our eyes clear for a second—and then the stench of reality shrouds the barely illuminated, mysterious contours once more.»

«In Search of the Blue Bird”—an urban audio promenade and quest through theatrical Moscow, dedicated to the history of the Moscow Art Theatre. The Blue Bird—a symbol of elusive happiness—disperses the memory of the MKhT across the city. The participant follows the route, discovers bronze guardian figures, and assembles the theatre’s history: from its founding to the museum, its trials, and the contemporary stage.
The route connects eight locations in central Moscow associated with the activities of the MKhT and its founders—K.S. Stanislavsky and V.I. Nemirovich-Danchenko.
The foundation of the route lies in the archival materials of the MKhAT Museum: posters, letters, photographs, sketches, and personal belongings. These elements become fragments of the narrative, revealed through the audio promenade, a paper guidebook, and AR.

«Happiness is always near; you just need to know how to see it.»
The sequence of passage is not mandatory. Participants can choose any point as a starting point and traverse the route in the order most convenient for them. The project’s concept suggests that the Blue Bird can be found anywhere—much like in the play, where happiness is discovered where it was not sought.
Characters
The project is not a literal retelling of the Meter Child fairy tale, but an exploration of its poetic system of imagery. In «The Blue Bird,» ordinary objects, natural forces, animals, and abstract powers become living beings. This principle is applied to the history of the Moscow Art Theatre (MKhT). Each character becomes an embodiment of a force within theatrical life, opening a chapter in the history of the MKhT—the theatre’s birth, the home on Kamergersky Street, Chekhov and Shekhtel, Nemirovich-Danchenko and Gorky, censorship, war, the schism, the museum, and the contemporary stage.
