In 2024, a tragedy struck Sukhumi. A fire destroyed almost the entire collection of the National Gallery—about 4,000 works. Because of this, I began to wonder about the influence of art on people and its existence beyond physical form.

Painting Series: «Against»

In my thesis project, I curated a collection of paintings by favorite artists—those who worked in and explored the medium—ranging from David Hockney to Ernst Kirchner. In this painting series, I draw inspiration from the selected works to create visual essays, attempting to continue their artistic statement through my own visual language. Each piece duplicates the format and title of the «original.» I depict interiors where these works might exist in a hypothetical, ideal world—regardless of whether they are currently in museum or private collections. These are psychological, sometimes surreal spaces that explore how a piece can change the person who interacts with it daily and transform the environment surrounding them.

Ceramics Series: «Conditions of Perception»
Small ceramic figures represent ways of perceiving the world. The objects are constructed in such a way that they cannot stand autonomously. Their stability is only possible when they are in contact with the wall against which they are leaning. This dependence on the surface turns the surrounding space into an active participant in the composition. The vertical support becomes an extension of the body and simultaneously a condition for its existence.
