«What’s the essence?» This book explores how object design has evolved over the past century—from the unattainable iconic pieces of the 20th century and mass-produced IKEA furniture to the contemporary Russian experience (using the Eburet studio as an example), where objects are printed on 3D printers from recycled plastic. The book’s title carries three distinct meanings: it poses the fundamental question about the nature of objects («what is the core of our attachment to things?»); it references the traditional symbol of home, warmth, and comfort («salt-bread»); and it is a direct association with materials—from salt crystals to the plastic granules from which the object world around us is built layer by layer.
