Previously, HES-2 polluted the environment—releasing combustion products from oil, peat, firewood, and coal into the air, and discharging wastewater into the river, which often held oil slicks. When the Community Center was designed, different principles were chosen: the use of solar energy, rainwater harvesting, and energy-saving technologies.
HES-2 has become an example of ecological space reconstruction—transforming a harmful enterprise into a beneficial place that embodies progressive and modern ideas.
It is this transformation that forms the basis of the «transformation» in my piece: the use of upcycling techniques and the emphasis on blue—the color of the pipes, which have become a metaphor for HES-2’s environmental agenda.
