Vladimir Nabokov, while translating «Eugene Onegin» into English, encountered the impossibility of conveying the full depth of the word «toska.» He left it as «toska"—a term denoting not merely sadness or boredom, but a synthesis of hopelessness, hope, inner emptiness, and melancholy. My photo project is an attempt to visualize this state. In a world of toska, the sacred and the spiritual intertwine with the mundane and the routine, and it is precisely in this that the Russian word «toska» is born—a word for which no equivalent exists in other languages.
