The record concept was developed as part of a research platform on visual studies. The platform discusses methods and approaches to research and how the boundaries between disciplines and art forms are fluid. The record develops this idea: on one side, a reading of theoretical text, and on the other, a musical composition. Thus, the project explores the interpenetration of different art forms and the experiments conducted at their intersections.
On the first side is Kandinsky’s text, «On the Spiritual in Art, ” Chapter III. In it, the author reflects on how art forms borrow expressive means from one another. On the second side are Mussorgsky’s „Pictures from the Exhibition, ” a musical composition written under the impression of Victor Hartmann’s exhibition.
The record merges two modes of perception, functioning both as a carrier of information and as a musical object. Audio cannot be skimmed; the listener follows the creator’s thought process in the exact sequence and tempo intended, engaging in deep, immersive listening. Music, connected to the author and their era, establishes the emotional context, allowing the listener to come closer to understanding how the author thought and felt.
