My project investigates how the bride transforms into a decorative object within contemporary wedding culture. Social media and the wedding industry construct an idealized image of the bride, where appearance can supersede individuality.
CONCEPT
In the culture of the 20th and 21st centuries, the wedding transforms from a rite of passage into a visual spectacle centered on the bride. Her dress, appearance, and behavior construct an idealized image of femininity, rendering her a part of the wedding’s decorative system—much like the flowers, the cake, or the decorations. Occupying a central place in the ritual, the bride simultaneously risks losing her subjectivity, becoming an object of display and consumption. This contradiction is evident in the image of the «ideal bride, ” shaped by wedding advertisements, magazines, and the aesthetics of the „white wedding.“
