Ceiling: a night where the audience lights up the constellation themselves
Световая часть фестиваля новых традиций « Со- бытиё „. Май 2027
«Sky Vault» is a nighttime program of the «Co-Event» festival: a luminous journey through the forest, field, and river that culminates in projection mapping onto a historic facade. Light, lasers, and interactive projections reveal the nature, and in the finale, the lights from the viewers' phones assemble into a collective constellation on the building.
The project unites media art, nature, and collective action. It is designed for an audience aged 15–35 and scales from an intimate showing to a large-scale facade show depending on the budget.
Context
Interest in one’s roots and local culture is growing, yet the younger generation lacks formats where tradition can not only be observed but truly adopted. Media art remains one of the most compelling genres: light and projections transform familiar spaces into events people discuss long after the festival ends.
«Sobytiyo» bridges both these needs: nature and tradition provide meaning, and light becomes the language through which the new generation speaks to them.
«So-bitye» Festival

«Sobiytiye» is a festival of new traditions that will take place in May 2027 in a small town near Moscow. It is built around four natural archetypes: Forest, Field, River, and Sky. Through these elements, young artists explore the relationship between humanity and nature across three levels: natural origins, cultural reflections, and contemporary statements.
The festival is prepared as a process—a laboratory for emerging artists, an open call, and a public program featuring lectures and film screenings all lead up to one day and night of events in nature.
The festival’s route takes you from day to night—from the familiar to the unexpected. The sky itself is its finale and nocturnal culmination.
Night Route
Visitors navigate the grounds from point to point. In the woods, they encounter a light portal; in the field, a light grid falls onto the grass; by the river, circles spread from footsteps; and on the glade, the graphics come alive with music. The route concludes at the facade, where mapping is projected and a constellation is formed.
Five Directions
All disciplines function as a single system: lighting, projections, and screens are controlled from one project—TouchDesigner. Therefore, the night is perceived as a cohesive show, not a collection of separate installations.
Facade Mapping
The six-minute mapping presentation encompasses all four directions of the festival. A fire ignites at the base of the building, light traces the contour, bark grows across the walls, the facade transforms into a field, and then a river. In the finale, the wall unfolds into the night sky; the lights of the audience ascend toward the building, forming a constellation. Each show is unique: the constellation is constructed from the real lights of the crowd, so it forms differently every night.
The viewer does not watch the show—they participate in it. This is the new tradition: collective action that can be repeated.
Technology
The building is captured via photogrammetry, and window, cornice, and opening masks are modeled based on the resulting 3D mesh. Static elements are calculated beforehand, while anything dependent on sound or people is tracked in real time. The camera identifies phone flashlights, and their coordinates become stars on the facade.
The system is not tied to a single building: the project can be transferred to any facade, area, or landscape after a new capture and calibration.
Scope and Budget
The project is structured to be implementable under any funding scenario. The basic version utilizes proprietary equipment, while each subsequent tier adds projectors, lasers, and new routing points.
