Sky Daily Signal
A daily medium covering celestial events, the Solar System, and space.Media Objective
To gather for the user in one place a concise and easily understandable summary, even for a layperson, from reliable sources about what has happened in astronomy today. Also, to proactively notify the user of celestial events they can observe themselves, based on their location.
The information will be accompanied by daily photographs of the night sky from NASA and other users.
Thematic focus of future media
The media will fall within the segment of science-popular digital media and will be dedicated to celestial and space events: constellations, planets, meteor showers, eclipses, and other astronomical phenomena. Special emphasis will be placed on real-time sky observation. Based on the user’s location, the media will display what objects and phenomena can be seen that night, the optimal time for observation, and whether special equipment is required.
Competitor Analysis
Star Walk is available as a website and a mobile application. In the app, users can point their phone camera at the sky and see an interactive map displaying the constellations, planets, and other objects currently visible to them. The downside, however, is that the user is viewing the constellations through the phone’s screen rather than observing them live.
The site compiles a substantial amount of information regarding astronomy, celestial phenomena, and observations. This makes the service useful as a reference guide, but due to the sheer volume of sections and materials, a beginner in astronomy may find it difficult to quickly orient themselves regarding current events and correctly understand them.
For decades, NASA has published one photograph related to astronomy, accompanying it with a brief explanation. On one hand, this is a simple and clear format—information from a reliable source with daily updates. Interest in the site has not waned to this day; even on TikTok, there are popular trends related to the daily NASA photo, such as checking what photo was featured on your birthday. On the other hand, the site lacks location-based personalization. Furthermore, the photograph represents only one piece of news for the day, even when multiple events occur.
The website features news about astronomy, event calendars, and materials detailing what can be observed in the sky. A large volume of verified information is presented here in various formats: short articles, podcasts, and content on astronomical phenomena. The portal also includes an event calendar, allowing users to learn in advance about upcoming celestial events. However, some drawbacks include the large amount of specialized content, which can be difficult for the average user to navigate, and an overloaded interface. A first-time visitor may struggle to immediately determine which events are relevant today.
Distribution Channel
The primary distribution channel is the Sky Daily Signal website. On the homepage, the user sees a daily summary that includes the main event of the day, what can be viewed tonight, upcoming rare phenomena, information about constellations and planets, and a photo from this day or last night.
Links to the original sources will be located at the bottom of the main screen.
The user can also allow the use of their location to receive more accurate information regarding the visibility of astronomical objects and events.
Additional channel—email newsletter. Users can subscribe to a brief daily or weekly digest and receive notifications about important events so they don’t miss them. This way, subscribers won’t have to check the site periodically, and if they share their geolocation, they can learn about a future event happening nearby in advance.
