As part of an investigation into communication in contemporary art, I turned to creating my own interpretation of human relationships through the notation of a game of spoon-playing on radiators located in the between-floor spans of a staircase. The radiator serves as a vivid image of sonic proximity—an effective, albeit often unwelcome, method of «delivering» messages.

Graphic Score for a Symphony
A five-minute graphic score was developed for three neighboring archetypes, incorporating variable methods of interacting with the battery surface (plus improvisational shifts to other zones). The character of these archetypes was defined by dynamics and discontinuity, frequency, and the fluidity of sonic automation. The objective of composing the score was to investigate the expressive qualities and acoustic potential for clearly separating the neighbors—will each voice be discernible, or will they be absorbed by the polyphony?
Battery Game is, in a way, an ode to coexistence—a coexistence that remains silent and blind in the big city—where neighbors know each other less and genuine communication is becoming a rare phenomenon.

Graphic symbols frame the interaction with the spoon, while the character of the articulation remains individual.
