«A Home Woven from Lace»
Дом для краткосрочной аренды в Рязанской области в Центре отдыха АКВАМАРИН

The project launches a series of guesthouses dedicated to the folk crafts of the Ryazan region. The overall concept of the recreation center is an open-air museum in which one can live. Kadomsky venis, Skopin pottery, and Mikhailovsky lace form the basis for independent architectural and interior design solutions. The goal is to build the place’s distinct identity and make experiencing the local culture one of the main draws of the trip.

The first project focuses on Mikhailovsky colored lace. The core of the author’s method is translating the principles of lacemaking into a spatial language: working with rhythm, scale, the relationship between dense and open areas, and color and chiaroscuro. The «Dance of Merriment» ornament establishes the compositional logic and the emotional character of the house, designed for recreation and social interaction.
The key technique involves «tattooing» onto the wood—painting with a delicate, lace-like design directly onto the surface of the wooden walls. The pattern interacts with the material’s natural texture, preserving its visibility. Manipulating the scale allows the ornament to become an independent element of the spatial composition.
The theme develops consistently from the facade into the interior. Intricate exterior details find continuation in the friezes, mirror frames, textiles, furniture reliefs, and fringed lighting fixtures. A single artistic principle receives various material interpretations. In the bedroom, a large, high-relief panel behind the headboard becomes the compositional center.
Color theory reveals the polychromy of the Mikhailovskoye lace. A dominant red establishes a continuous rhythm, unifying window frames, baseboards, lighting fixtures, and decorative accents. Green and small touches of yellow complete the palette. Light wood and milky surfaces balance the chromatic and ornamental richness. Light plays a role in shaping the decorative scheme—it reveals texture, accentuates intricate contours, and lends depth to surfaces. Perimeter lighting and localized sources allow for the perception of space to shift—from an open, overall volume to intimate evening zones.
Our project is currently in the final stages of implementation. Here are some photos of the elements that have already been realized.

A contemporary interpretation of Russian style is built upon a combination of expressive ornamentation, laconic furniture forms, and tactile materials. The intensity of the decor is correlated with the purpose of the space: the communal area supports active social interaction, while the bedroom offers a more restrained reading of the theme.
Humor is also interwoven into this narrative: in the shower room, the heroine holds a watering can amidst the birches, transforming a familiar domestic scenario into a small visual play. The author’s graphic style in the shower room adds a layer of narrative and irony.

The project proposes a model for integrating traditional craftsmanship into the contemporary hospitality setting. Local heritage shapes the identity of the home and the narrative for experiencing the locale, turning residency into a means of personal engagement with regional culture.
