Permanent Exhibition: «Stone Architecture of Kargopol»

Within the framework of the project «Art of Creation. Kargopol Architecture.»
Kargopol Historical, Architectural, and Art Museum, Kargopol, 2025The project was supported by the Presidential Fund of Cultural Initiatives, timed to coincide with the 880th anniversary of Kargopol, and was realized in partnership with the A.V. Shchusev State Museum of Architecture. The exhibition is organized in the Blagoveshchenskaya Church in Kargopol. The church is a masterpiece of 17th-century white-stone architecture (1692), an unsurpassed example of the «stone ornamentation» style.
The exhibition showcases the distinctive stone architecture of Kargopol from the mid-16th to the early 20th century. For the first time, all known stone churches of Kargopol are presented in a single space.
A dedicated section of the exhibition is devoted to the history and architecture of the Blagoveshchenskaya Church, highlighting its unique elements—the «golosniks”—ceramic vessels embedded in the vault masonry, and the overall „stone ornamentation.“
