On unlit roads of the Leningrad Oblast, amidst dark forests or desolate plains, far from settlements, one can encounter portals glowing with bright, alluring neon light. These portals are mysterious and slightly absurd. From afar, appearing out of the darkness on the roadside, they seem something mystical and fairy-tale-like. As one gets closer, their blurred glow begins to take on the recognizable shapes of signs: «Fish, ” OZON, Diesel, Car Wash. The car washes here are a strange motif. How can you wash a car in an empty field? Yet they stand there, shimmering blue and pink. And in the „Fish“ kiosks, they sell not fresh catch, but perhaps the memory of a sea that has never been here. But none of this is what it seems. A truly seasoned traveler knows that this is merely part of the portals' disguise, and that the mechanism of reassembly is real.
