Movie Posters
In the poster for Fight Club, the faces of the main characters are layered onto each other to create an effect of spatial resonance. From a distance, the narrator is visible on the poster, but as the viewer gets closer, the character of Brad Pitt becomes more apparent. This technique conveys the main character’s distress, and the text in the background complements this metaphor.
The poster for The Wolf of Wall Street references one of the movie’s most popular moments, which is frequently used in memes: https://youtu.be/VCPXW3KTa1o?si=4QdwYMvdQ0MvEWgN
Vinyl Records. The cover featuring Eminem references his lyric from the song «Without Me»: «I’ve created the monster.» In the album The Eminem Show, the artist sings about childhood trauma and the struggles of fame, detailing how he created an alter ego that is more interesting to society than his true self.
On the cover of the darker album, I kept the original colors, but if you look closely, you can see Viktor Tsoi. This album was the last one recorded while the vocalist was alive, yet the music was recorded after his passing; therefore, Tsoi’s portrait seems to recede from the viewer of the cover.
Book Covers
Two are for the Brazilian audience and two are for the Chinese. The work is inspired by the Japanese artistic technique—mitate. It resembles a metaphor, but the core principle is the convergence of two cultural worlds within the image. In this case, it involves Russian classics alongside the visual code of Japanese scrolls and Brazilian cordel—folk poetry collections—so for the Brazilians, we feature collections by Yesenin and Pushkin. The Chinese covers reference the cat Behemoth from Mim and the climax of The Master and Margarita—the death of the main character.
