Hello! I am Katya Shulyak—a multidisciplinary artist specializing primarily in motion design, 3D, and illustration. I earned my bachelor’s degree from the HSE Art and Design School in the «CGI and Visual Effects» program, with a focus on «Art Direction.»I explore the possibilities of visual storytelling by working with form, movement, light, and atmosphere. In every project, I aim to discover a personal visual language that helps convey not just the idea, but also the mood, feeling, or emotion.

Credits for the film «Black Cats in Bamboo Thickets»
The project focuses on creating title sequences for the 1968 Japanese film, «Black Cats in Bamboo Thickets, ” a film rooted in a dark and tragic story. The plot centers on a mother and daughter who become victims of brutal violence and murder by samurai. After their deaths, they return to the world of the living as demonic cats to avenge their tormentors. The visual concept for the title sequences draws upon the film’s dramatic narrative, incorporating contrasting imagery and a black-and-white color palette. The employed techniques help convey the feeling of Japanese calligraphy. The visual solution is also based on imagery from the film’s locations, costumes, and props, all of which directly reference the plot.

«Spets» Spice Brand
«Spets”—a spice brand—offers a unique concept where each spice is associated with a specific profession, thereby reflecting its character and specialty. We believe that every profession has its own culinary traditions and preferences, which is why our spices are designed to inspire and aid in preparing dishes that embody the spirit of each profession. The project includes logo development, which plays on wordplay, a promotional video, and visualizations for various media.

DAFES Choice Contest Winner. March 2025
The project focuses on creating a music video. It is based on a track by the artist nikakoi. The composition «uuusmine» conveys strong feelings of loss through its rich soundscape. The track immerses the listener in an atmosphere of melancholy. Listening to the track made me recall my fading memories, which have turned into black-and-white images in my mind. The imagery presented in this work reminds me of my past—a past I had almost forgotten: a scarf, people, and games are elements of those fading memories.
