1/ Statement of Purpose

Dear Admissions Committee Members,My name is Sofya.
I graduated from the Russian University of Transport (RUT MIIT) with a degree in «Transport and Industrial Design.» During my studies, I gained experience in various design fields and mastered the following software:
During my studies, I completed an internship at NAMI and participated in various projects and design hackathons, including Design Drive. After my third year, I interned at Slava Saakyan’s studio, where I worked for a year and gained experience developing real design challenges. Afterward, following a summer internship, I joined the electronic machinery company MNTTs-MIET, where I have been working as a
Industrial Designer
for the past year. This experience allowed me to see the entire product development process and better understand the specific demands of industrial design within a real manufacturing environment.
This year, I graduated with honors after defending my thesis in transportation design. My studies provided me with a strong foundation in working with form, complex objects, and ergonomics, but over time, I realized I wanted to develop in industrial and product design, delving deeper into the interaction between humans and products.
I am considering the HSE Master’s program in the area of «Product and Industrial Design» as my priority for further study. I aim to systematize the knowledge I have already acquired, develop my design skills, and learn to work more deeply with product research, concept development, and creation.
I am confident that the education in your program will help me develop professional skills and delve deeper into industrial and product design, leveraging my existing experience to create in-demand products.
2/ Thesis Project
Conceptual Design of an Autonomous Irrigation Machine for the City of Moscow.
The main objective of the project was to develop a design concept for a next-generation urban irrigation machine, based on an analysis of existing equipment, current urban trends, and the potential integration of autonomous technologies.The topic was proposed by the Industrial Design Studio of Svyatoslav Saakyan.Key Project Takeaways.
The issue of large dimensions is addressed with a new, compact configuration.
Poor environmental performance is resolved by utilizing an electric platform.
Reliance on human error is mitigated through autonomous Level 3 control.
The outdated aesthetics are replaced with a new, human- and urban-centric design.
Research has shown that people perceive the cabin as a symbol of control and safety. Therefore, the familiar proportions of modern utilitarian equipment were retained to make the image recognizable. Meanwhile, to emphasize autonomy, the decision was made to forgo the traditional cabin and visually represent the absence of a driver.
My 1:10 scale mock-up was also featured at the «ProDvizheniye 2026» exhibition at VDNH.
3/ Academic Projects
[BATOPHOBIA]
This is a frozen moment of «falling downward.» The form is constructed on the principle of a funnel or the unfolded chasm, where a light and tranquil surface abruptly cuts off into an impenetrable, constricting darkness.

To provide visitors with fast, comfortable, and eco-friendly navigation across the vast park grounds, thereby reducing infrastructure strain and saving guests time.
