About the Artist

Original size 1920x1080
Jackson Pollock (1912–1956) is one of the leading figures of Abstract Expressionism. He became famous for his signature «dripping» technique: he splattered and poured paint directly onto a canvas laid on the floor, thus creating dynamic, multilayered compositions without a pre-planned narrative. Pollock emphasized the creative process and the expression of an inner state, rather than the depiction of specific objects. His works, such as «Number 5, 1948, ” became iconic for post-war American art and heavily influenced the evolution of abstraction.
