The title «While It’s New» refers to the habit of saving beautiful things for a special occasion, postponing their use indefinitely. At the core of the project is a Soviet vase that continues to be perceived as new and valuable, despite the passage of time, because it is shielded from daily life. However, the title is not limited to the history of a single vase. It speaks to a broader attitude toward objects, one in which the desire to preserve beauty outweighs the desire to use it. An object exists not so much for the present as for a hypothetical future.
