Concept

These candle holders represent a reinterpretation of Slavic mythology through contemporary object design.I was fascinated by how the images of creatures from folklore could take on a new form in familiar interior objects. This led to the idea for a collection dedicated to: {The Rusalka, Baba Yaga, and the Domovoy}.Their character is conveyed through the plasticity, silhouettes, textures, and glaze color. Each candle holder becomes an independent decorative object where traditional folklore motifs receive a modern reading.

How can this be made?

a) The main body of the piece, featuring a characteristic rounded silhouette and a candle holder aperture, is formed. Decorative elements are then added by hand.

b) The pieces are dried until all moisture has evaporated and undergo the first firing. After this, a glaze is applied to the surface. Each character receives a unique color combination that conveys their personality and image.

c) The glaze firing locks the coating in place and lends a shine to the surface.
