Project Goals and Mission
The primary goal of my project was to create a poster for a jazz trio performance at the DOM Cultural Center. The poster needed to not only convey information about the event but also function as a vibrant, decorative element within the venue. In this way, the musical performance gained a visual manifestation, which amplified the impact of the event. The space transformed from merely a venue for a musical evening into an exhibition.

Personal Projects
My work consisted of several stages:
- Selecting a photograph to serve as the basis for the poster.
- Developing a grid for text placement.
- Creating a letter-based composition.
- Printing, cutting, and exhibition.

1. Photography A fundamental requirement for this project was the use of photography as its foundation. The photograph needed to evoke references, imagery, or atmosphere related to music. For my poster, I created a scan of a shirt, which I used. The shirt here symbolizes a cultural event, and the folds on it allude to the characteristics of the genre—since jazz is improvisation, playing with rhythm and sound.2. Grid Next, I needed to plan a grid on the chosen photograph, which would guide the subsequent typographic composition. In my case, the grid was composed of vertical stripes.

3. Typography Next, based on the photograph and a carefully conceived grid, the goal was to convey a message on the poster. The condition that had to be met was: only the provided printed letters and phrases could be used. For my poster, I came up with the following solution. The grid I designed was non-standard because it was vertical. Instead of flipping the letters to match the grid and arranging the message line-by-line in the traditional way, I decided to continue the non-standard nature of my poster. The grid began to «cut» through the letters, which were positioned perpendicular to it. Thus, the text worked alongside the photograph rather than overlapping it, which intensified the perception. Furthermore, the black-and-white color of the letters and their free arrangement again allude to the musicality and chaos of jazz.4. Printing and Exhibition Once the poster was printed, and all the letters were manually cut and pasted, the finished piece needed to be taken to the KC DOM to set up the exhibition. We arranged several pieces prepared for this exhibition to create a harmonious composition and then began hanging them. In the end, the commission was successfully completed: a vibrant and interesting space was created that complemented the character of the music evening.
Results
The result of the work was a finished, full-size printed poster that was featured in an exhibition at the Cultural Center event. All requirements were considered during the process (photography as the basis, printed typography, format, etc.). Thanks to the poster, the space fully aligned with the character of the event and complemented it. Spectators could perceive what was happening not only through sound but also by seeing the visual embodiment of the music through the poster. Thus, the impression of the event becomes more vivid, which can encourage people to attend it again.
Interaction with HSE
The project was created within the HSE School of Plakat Laboratory under the supervision of the curator. After presenting the project to the students, the instructor organized the workflow, during which I had the opportunity to consult on my work. The printing was also carried out within the School of Design, specifically in Prepress.
