Terang—a video mapping competition held as part of the Georgetown Festival in Malaysia. This year’s theme is «Pasar”—as a space of exchange and a representation of Malaysian culture.
Pasar: A Living Tale presents the pasar as a dynamic, ever-changing entity deeply intertwined with Malay culture. These shifts are illustrated through scenes from Malaysian folktales about Sang Kancil—a small, cunning mouse-deer.
The building itself becomes a market, a stage, a place where various stories and images unfold, demonstrating that the market, despite its transformations, remains an enduring element of culture.
The video tells the story of three tales about Sang Kanchil:
- The tale of the crocodiles he tricks into letting him cross the river;
- The tale of the Malayan tiger, whom Kanchil turns against his own reflection;
- The tale of the snails that overtake Kanchil in a race.
The project made it into the top 20 finalists of the competition and was exhibited at the Georgetown City Hall from August 1 to August 9, 2026!
