From an Informational Lead to a Commercial Opportunity:On April 6, 2026, during a live broadcast of NASA Artemis II, a Nutella bank was accidentally captured in the frame—mere minutes before the historic record for spaceflight range was set.The moment instantly went viral across social media. Fox News called it one of the greatest examples of free advertising, and WELT dubbed it the most valuable advertising placement of all time, which the brand paid nothing for.
The brand quickly capitalized on a viral moment in social media. But what if you went further—transforming fleeting interest into a complete commercial product? This is how my concept, the Nutella Space Edition—a limited-edition packaging collection—came to be. It was designed to extend the life of the news event, deepen the emotional connection with the audience, and convert organic reach into potential sales.
The series is executed in the style of minimalist outline illustration. Fine line illustrations featuring cosmic themes.
Visual features of the label: The «rockets» on the label act as an interactive packaging element. Initially, they are part of the single label and are realized through die-cutting, but if desired, they can be bent outward.
Thanks to this simple action, the box transforms into a stylized space object, which enhances user engagement and adds a playful character to the packaging.
The packaging was designed in the format of a glossy stand-up pouch with a stable base and rounded corners. For production, a glossy, multilayer food-grade PET/PE material with a zip-lock closure is recommended.
The packaging is designed in the shape of a planet with an orbit, consisting of two hemispheres. The lower section is intended for Nutella paste, and the upper section is for a surprise toy.
The central ring creates the image of an orbit, emphasizing the product’s cosmic concept. For production, high-gloss food-grade plastic is recommended, as it enhances the brightness, volume, and playful nature of the packaging.
The concept for the Nutella Zero Gravity Edition also drew attention during the design intensive, Portfolio Hero 9.The intensive organizers selected the most compelling participant work for a public critique, and my Nutella project was included among the reviewed cases in the «Branding» category. Thus, the project merges graphic design, branding, and situational marketing, demonstrating how a single snapshot can serve as the starting point for a new commercial idea.
