Saint Petersburg man killed his girlfriend’s dog out of jealousy
A 22-year-old Anatoly Zaitsev was detained in St. Petersburg in a case involving animal cruelty. This was reported by the local newspaper «Vesti» on September 7th. The investigation revealed that the man acted out of jealousy: his girlfriend paid more attention to the dog.
Anatoly was detained on September 6th. According to witnesses, the student forcefully dragged the dog by its leash through the park before beginning to choke it. By the time the police arrived, the pet had already died. «Well, I’m better than the dog,» the detainee commented on his actions. His girlfriend admitted that Anatoly had previously been aggressive toward the dog. The cause was a struggle for attention: the student believed he loved the pet more fiercely.
A criminal case has been opened against the man under Article 245 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation regarding animal cruelty. According to law enforcement agencies, the man faces up to three years in prison.
The investigation notes that Anatoly was previously suspected in a case involving the killing of a cat but was released due to lack of evidence. The pet belonged to the student’s ex-girlfriend and died from strangulation. The investigation into this case has been resumed.
