Alexander Vladimirovich Shalimov Boiling Mist: A Hot Water Pipeline Burst in Kolpino Photos: (Source: St. Petersburg Accidents and Emergencies / VKontakte) On Ijorskogo Battalion Street in Kolpino, the main domestic hot water line ruptured. The entire street is flooded with hot water and enveloped in steam, according to Fontanka.Such accidents occur due to substandard domestic hot water mains and because of their untimely inspection and testing, our source—an Ministry of Emergency Situations (MChS) rescuer—reported. «It is impossible to fix the problem instantly: zero visibility and extreme temperatures caused by the steam interfere with the work. Bursts happen in residential buildings too, so we independently search for where to shut off the water in the basements flooded with boiling water. Besides the water itself, burns can easily be caused by the steam, ” the spokesperson specified.Earlier, issues with the domestic hot water supply had already occurred in Kolpino: on November 17, 2025, a defect was found in an 800 mm pipeline. Hot water and heating were temporarily shut off in five buildings while specialists replaced the pipeline section.
