As part of this assignment, I found a suitable event, took photographs on site, interviewed students, researched last year’s Students' Night, and then prepared the news piece.
When Universities Speak the Same Language: What It Was Like at the Main Inter-University Orientation
In St. Petersburg, over two thousand young people were welcomed as students. A large-scale event called «Student Night» took place at the multi-format club Sound, located on the premises of Sevkabel Port. Everyone who wished to meet first-year students from other universities and celebrate the start of a new chapter in their lives was welcome to attend.
Entry to the welcome event required pre-purchased tickets. Two weeks before the event, the organizers launched a giveaway for free tickets. The initiators of the welcome ceremony prepared an extensive entertainment program for the guests. Popular DJs performed on the main stage of the Sound club throughout the entire night. The large dance floor was divided into interactive zones.
«I really liked the event. But I didn’t appreciate the DJ performance program. I only liked Ruslan Raise, ” commented Daria Sysina, a first-year student at HSE.
In addition to the music program, large interactive zones were set up on the club grounds: beer pong tournaments, instant photo booths, and prize giveaways for completing games. Professional photographers worked at the event. Those who made it through the line first could receive free cotton candy. Due to the large number of guests, the line for „Student Night“ stretched out onto the street.
„The welcome was awesome. We took some pictures with instant print, and now they are hanging above my desk in the dorm, ” commented Ilya, a first-year student from BGTU.
Student Night is a traditional city-wide welcome event that annually brings together first-year students from St. Petersburg’s largest universities. Last year, a large-scale rave took place on the night of September 26–27. The highlight of the event was the explosive sets by DJ Smirnov and DJ Lexx, which gathered thousands of students on the dance floor for a powerful light show.
