Unplayed

The project «Unplayed» explores the vulnerability of the musician hidden behind the flawless facade of the stage persona. The starting point is the Sheremetev Palace—its historical connection to music and culture—along with personal memories from my grandfather’s stories, as he is a musician.

I am interested in the individual left alone with their talent—outside the stage, the applause, and the audience’s expectations. The musician exists in a constant interplay with discipline, the necessity of self-improvement, and conforming to a certain image. The frock coat and shirt, traditionally symbolizing elegance, status, and professionalism, become in this project not merely clothing, but a metaphor for the limitations within which the performer operates.
