Tapestry—this is a reimagining of the most vibrant, complex, and cherished costume for my graduation short film, based on the motifs of «The Master and Margarita.» The Satan costume is a home-stitched robe embroidered with satin stitch. The illustration for the embroidery on the character’s robe is very colorful and detailed, and I always felt a slight melancholy about the effort put into it, as the character spends most of the time seated in a chair, meaning none of the details will ever be seen.Initially created for textile implementation, the work translates beautifully to the tapestry format and works wonderfully as a form of merchandise.

Original sketch (robe flat drawing)
To adapt the sketch for the medium and transform it into a complete illustration, it was moved to a horizontal format of 204×146 and expanded. The technique used in the sketch—employing fine crosshatching to imitate embroidery—was altered: the hatching was replaced with gradients, and the small details and «stitches» were rendered as clearer, larger lines and patterns. The color palette was also adapted.
