«City Compass» is an interactive long-read created in the format of a Media Hackathon for students in the Communications program at HSE. The project is based on a historical narrative: the diary of a sailor who arrived on Vasilyevsky Island’s Spit in the 19th century. Our goal was not merely to tell the story of the location, but to allow the reader to «live» the hero’s history by superimposing past events onto contemporary locations in St. Petersburg.
Challenge: To create a multimedia product within the framework of a media hackathon that tells the story of Strelka Vasilievsky Island.
What we did: We conducted field research at Strelka Vasilievsky Island, gathered photographic and video materials, wrote a script, selected historical sources, found real stories of sailors, and designed an interactive website using Tilda.
Team members: Sofya Belyaeva, Daria Bogachek, Simuzar Nurieva, Anna Veziryayan, Aliya Kabardaeva, Viktoria Zubkova, Ksenia Dontsova, Elizaveta Trofimova.
