«Place of Absence”—a series of prints inspired by Viktor Borisov-Musatov’s painting „Window, ” in which I depict openings as points of potential encounter with the supernatural or as boundaries between visible space and the unknown.

In each scene, a recognizable form frames a solid black void. The black field prevents viewers from seeing what lies beyond the boundary and makes it impossible to determine the depth or character of the space. Meanwhile, the surroundings remain recognizable, allowing the viewer to understand the situation, yet denying access to whatever is supposed to be beyond the opening. Thus, the image preserves the boundary of space, eliminating the space itself that lies behind it.

The black void becomes a constant element within the series, even as its form and surrounding context change. Repeating this technique allows the void to be understood not as a discrete object, but as something arising from the interplay between the boundary and the image—and expectation—creating a suffocating and unsettling sense of encountering the unnamed and unknown.

I am choosing high-contrast black-and-white printing to convey a sense of unease—the void is not printed; it is the unprinted paper in the center. The black has always been there, and the white is temporary.
