concept
The project examines defensive responses as a method of adapting to constant environmental stimuli. Contemporary individuals exist within a continuous stream of external influences—informational, social, and environmental. Complete isolation is impossible, yet constant openness renders humans vulnerable. This necessitates constantly finding a balance between interacting with the surrounding world and maintaining one’s own security.
The starting point for this research involves living organisms capable of responding to changes in environmental conditions by temporarily altering their own state: by closing up, retracting, changing shape, or creating a protective barrier. Unlike permanent defense, such a reaction occurs in response to a specific stimulus and ceases when the conditions change.
